Where things are at Before anyone renews their membership, we're not there yet. We are closer than we've ever been, though. On 31 August, Costco lodged an application under the Government's fast-track consenting process. The site is an empty block between Memorial Avenue and Avonhead Road, near the airport. On 14 October, that application was cleared to move to the next stage. The plans include a warehouse store with a tyre centre, food court and fuel station, plus around 7,900 square metres of other large-format retail next door. Altogether it's about 16,000 square metres. The next hurdle is a full application, which an independent expert panel will assess.
