After a number of years working through Christchurch winters, I have learned not to oversell the idea that there is one perfect season to put your home on the market. Winter can be harder. The days are shorter, the weather makes preparation more difficult and everything from getting outside jobs finished to presenting a home well can take a bit more effort. That does not mean you should avoid selling in winter. It just means the decision should come back to what you are actually trying to achieve. For me, the best time to sell is when you are ready.

Start With Your Next Move The strategy I recommend will usually depend less on the season and more on why someone is selling. Are you upsizing because the kids are getting older? Are you relocating? Moving into a retirement village? Selling an investment? Or do you simply need something that suits the next stage of life better? A lot of the conversations I am having at the moment are with Christchurch families wanting more space. They might be in a three bedroom, one bathroom home and now want an internal access garage, another bathroom, a larger primary bedroom or simply more room for the family.
